Guiding our children toward following Christ and making wise decisions in life is a joyful, yet challenging responsibility for every Christian parent. We all want to see our children learn and grow, and have a deep, and meaningful relationship with their Creator, but we understand that especially in our culture, this can be very difficult. Frankly, that’s because our culture makes sin and secular reasoning look deceptively smart and even exciting.
How can we as parents counteract that philosophy? Our children need more than church on Sunday and Wednesday night to help them understand who God is, how they can see Him in the world He created, how to live their lives to please Him, and how much He loves them. With all the different forms of media at our fingertips bombarding us with secular philosophy and morality, it’s never been more vital to surround our children with Godly teaching and principles. Whether you’re thinking about the joys and challenges of homeschooling, or you are wondering whether the public school system is what is best for your child, we want to encourage you and provide you with a few thoughts to consider as you begin making decisions about the upcoming school year.
It is our desire at Bay City Christian School to support parents in the Biblical responsibility of preparing their children to live a Godly, Christ-filled life. The Bible says so much about the importance of teaching our children. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 requires parents to diligently teach doctrine and whole-hearted love for God around the clock and in everything that they face.
The Old Testament principles are clear. Beyond the Deuteronomy 6 passage, Solomon provides the promise that when a child is trained properly, he will not depart from the principles he has learned (Proverbs 22:7.) When we analyze New Testament teaching, we see that a responsibility to train the next generation was also given to the church. Christ directs the apostles to “teach all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20.) Later, Paul reveals that the rationale for this Biblical teaching is to continue Christian instruction for subsequent generations (I Timothy 2:2.) Although some may argue that those verses deal with just teaching the Bible, Paul warns believers to eliminate any thought or philosophy that would be counter to Scriptural revelation (Colossians 2:8, II Corinthians 10:4-5.)
Of course the Bible does not mention Christian schools. The Scriptures do, however, identify the goal for all Christians is to be conformed into the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29, II Timothy 3:17) and not into the thinking of the world (Romans 12:1-2.) While parents have the Biblical obligation, the Holy Spirit has provided gifted people within the body of Christ to accomplish this task (Ephesians 4:12-13.)
Sadly, many educational choices for parents do not permit them the opportunity to satisfy their Biblical mandate. The American public school system has come a long way from their roots. The Old Deluder Act of 1647 established public schools to teach children to read so that they can understand the Scriptures and thus avoid the delusions of Satan.
“It being one chief project of that old deluder, Satan, to keep men from the knowledge of the Scriptures… It is therefore ordered that every township in this jurisdiction, after the Lord hath increased them to fifty households shall forthwith appoint one within their town to teach all such children as shall resort to him to write and read…” – The Old Deluder Act of 1647
Today, the Bible is legally outlawed and Humanism is the “official religion” in our public schools.
But the essential difference between Bay City Christian School and others is not simply the presence of the Bible or the lack of evolutionary teaching. Even if public schools provided an excellent education (which many schools do) and minimize the presence of drugs and violence (which a lot of schools do), they cannot offer a consistent, thorough presentation of the Biblical worldview. A Barna Group study found that 70% of young adults who attended church in their youth, leave the church, and of those, 86% went to public school (Brett Beemer, America’s Research Group). That says a lot about the power of education!
Bay City Christian School serves like-minded Christian families who want to raise their children in an environment that supports their Scriptural beliefs and by Godly teachers that demonstrate a passion for learning. Bay City enrolls students from its own church as well as other Baptist churches, non-denominational churches, or other evangelical denominations.
Consider the opportunities that BCCS offers your family – an excellent, well-rounded education from a Biblical worldview. We want to reinforce the Biblical principles that you are already teaching your children at home and through your church, as well as prepare them with the academic, physical, and social skills to succeed in whatever God calls them to do with their lives.
As a registered school in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, vouchers are available for eligible families. This program provides a voucher that fully pays for a child’s tuition and fees.
