Mary Fleming
Middle & High School Science
Mrs. Mary Fleming has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. She’s been teaching for nearly twenty years, in public and Christian schools, as well as homeschooling her six children for a period of time. Mrs. Fleming teaches middle and high school science at Bay City Christian School. She’s passionate about Christian education because she and her husband, Mike, have a strong desire to see their own children walk in the truths of the Bible, and through Christian education, they hope to support their children as they develop their view of who God is. Teaching at a Christian school gives her an opportunity to help not only her own children, but other Christian children and families as well.
Mrs. Fleming has always enjoyed helping others learn and getting to know both her students and their families. She understands that each student is uniquely created by God, so it’s her goal to help them understand and develop their strengths for the glory of God while challenging them to stretch themselves as they learn new topics. She has a traditional teaching style with a flare for making learning fun. Her students appreciate that Mrs. Fleming tries to include as many hands on projects as possible in her classroom to reinforce concepts and develop communication skills for working together. She finds it rewarding every time she gets to see a student grasping new concepts or developing character as they persevere in difficult material. When she considers her teaching career and goals, she’s often inspired by I Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. ”She seeks to include Biblical truth into whatever subject she’s teaching because as C. S. Lewis once said, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” That’s why she’s focused on directing her students to use all their knowledge to serve God and others.
Mrs. Fleming and her husband have been married for more than thirty years. She enjoys gardening, sewing, cooking, walking, reading, and spending leisurely Saturday mornings with family and a good cup of coffee.
