Debbie Brown

Fifth & Sixth Grade Teacher

Mrs. Debbie Brown has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Bob Jones University. She teaches music, choir, and chimes for all grades at Bay City Christian School. Mrs. Brown has more than thirty-five years of experience as a music teacher in Christian schools, and she’s been blessed to be able to see the fruits of her efforts over the years. Hundreds of her students are playing the piano and singing in churches all across the country. Some are even piano teachers and have written her notes thanking her for the influence in their lives. One of her students even played the piano at Carnegie Hall! Mrs. Brown greatly enjoys watching her students use their talents to serve the Lord – in chapel, in church, in nursing homes. Sometimes people ask her how she gets children to do that. Her answer, “They ask me if they can!”

She believes in enjoying the music first, and then teaching kids about what they just had fun doing – singing, playing, listening, or tapping. Mrs. Brown has always loved music and teaching. She says, “I can remember lining up all my dolls and teddy bears on the couch as my students, and I would be the teacher!” Her love for music and for her students can easily be seen by anyone who’s been in her classes or enjoyed school programs.

The Bible verse that’s really inspired her as a teacher is Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatsoever thy hand finds to do, do with all thy might!” Her dad was also instrumental in helping her do what she loves to do. He told her, “I hope you find something you love to do, and then find someone to pay you to do it.”

Besides being the music teacher, she keeps busy as church choir leader, piano teacher, women’s bible study teacher, mom, grandma, and also wife of Paul Brown, senior pastor at Bay City Baptist Church.  Mrs. Brown enjoys bike riding, stamping greeting cards, sewing, and of course, playing the piano.
