As the administrator, Dr. Michael Phillips is dedicated to using his expertise and experience to provide students a solid, balanced education that will push them to achieve educationally, socially, and spiritually. He received his doctoral degree in Educational Administration from Bob Jones University, and has served in Christian schools for more than twenty-five years. One of his greatest rewards has been the joy of watching students grow into young men and women that are seeking God’s will in their lives.
Dr. Phillips grew up in a pastor’s home, and as a student in high school, witnessed the beginning of Christian education as we know it today. By the time he was a senior in high school, he knew that God wanted him involved in Christian education, and he has faithfully pursued that calling through all his years in the ministry. I Samuel 12:23-24 is his life verse. He believes it identifies his responsibility as school administrator to pray and to teach, as well as the intended outcome in others — to hear and to serve God. The verses says, “Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord, in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. Only fear the Lord, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.”
Dr. Phillips enjoys interacting with students in the classroom and in the activities that surround our school — athletic activities, chapel services, field trips, and other special events. Besides being the administrator, he teaches math courses, Bible, and Worldviews. He’s the coach for the high school girls basketball and middle school girls volleyball teams. Being involved in the classroom and in competitive sports, gives him a unique opportunity to get to know the students, while teaching them and talking with them about what’s important. Whether in the classroom or in the gym, he encourages students to learn how to work hard to master the material, and he will do whatever he can to help them develop that responsibility so that they are best prepared for all the challenges they will face in life.
Dr. Phillips and his wife Shellee have been married for more than thirty years. They have four children. Dr. Phillips likes all kinds of sports, his favorite teams being the Capitals, Packers, Tigers, Blue Devils, and the Redskins. He and his family also enjoy visiting historical sites. Together, they’ve studied Colonial America, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War.
